Standard Operating Procedure: DTI Rust Remover Application

Step-by-step standard operating procedure for safely applying DTI Rust Remover to concrete surfaces. Covers preparation, application, rinsing, and disposal.

Product: DTI RUST REMOVER
Document Type: Standard Operating Procedure
Coverage: 400-800 sq ft / gallon
Revision: 1.0 - 2026

Preparation

Before beginning, review all preparation requirements carefully. Proper preparation ensures effective rust removal and worker safety.

  1. Coverage Rate: 1 gallon of DTI RUST REMOVER covers approximately 400-800 sq ft per gallon. Coverage rate depends on the porosity of the surface. DTI recommends testing in a small area prior to larger applications to determine actual coverage rates.
  2. No Shaking Required: DTI RUST REMOVER does not need to be shaken prior to use.
  3. DO NOT DILUTE PRODUCT. Use DTI RUST REMOVER at full concentration only.
  4. PPE Required: DTI recommends the use of all appropriate PPE products when handling DTI RUST REMOVER, including chemical-resistant gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing.
  5. Equipment: DTI recommends the use of a chemical-resistant pump-up sprayer for application.

Application Procedure

  1. Surface Cleaning: Clean the concrete surface to remove all loose debris and dirt. It is recommended to use a 3,000-psi pressure washer or commercial pressure washer.
  2. Allow to Dry: Let the surface dry completely before applying DTI RUST REMOVER.
  3. Load Sprayer: Add DTI RUST REMOVER to the pump sprayer and prime the pump sprayer.
  4. Apply Product: Apply DTI RUST REMOVER to the entire surface, saturating evenly. DO NOT spot spray on the first application.
  5. Agitation (if needed): In some applications, agitate with a scrub brush or mechanical agitator to speed up rust removal.
  6. DO NOT allow product to dry on the surface. Monitor the treated area continuously.
  7. Rinse: Rinse the entire area thoroughly with clean water. Reclaim all rinse water using a wet/dry vacuum or floor scrubber for proper disposal per local environmental regulations.
  8. Repeat if Necessary: For heavy rust staining, a second application may be required. Allow the surface to dry between applications and assess results before re-applying.

Safety and Disposal

  • Wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection at all times during application and rinsing.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area.
