    Floor Coving

Floor Coving for Commercial and Industrial Facilities

Floor coving is the curved transition where a floor meets a wall. A square corner traps dirt and moisture and is hard to clean. A coved base replaces that corner with a rounded profile that can be wiped and washed down. DTI installs floor coving as its own service, on new and existing floors.

DTI is an engineered flooring company.

    What floor coving does

    • Replaces the square corner where dirt and liquid collect
    • Makes wash-down cleaning faster and more complete

    Coving options

    • Cove height: typically 4 to 6 inches.
    • Radius: 3/8 inch.
    • Material: thixotropic epoxy mixed with quartz sand. The thickened resin holds its shape on vertical surfaces.
    • Steam and high-temperature areas: the cove resin is the same whether the floor's base coat is epoxy or urethane.
    • Sealcoat: the cove receives the same sealcoat as the floor for a seamless finish.

    How coving installation works

    1. Inspection: DTI checks the wall and floor junction, the substrate, and the moisture conditions before any work starts.
    2. Preparation: The surfaces are cleaned, profiled, and repaired as needed. Both the top and bottom edges of the cove are taped off so the finished lines are clean and sharp.
    3. Mixing: DTI mixes the cove mortar from thixotropic epoxy and quartz sand aggregate.
    4. Application and cure: The cove is typically installed before the floor and is hand-troweled to the specified height. The cove resin typically cures in 8 to 12 hours, depending on temperature.
    5. Floor installation: After the cove is installed, DTI installs the specified floor system before applying the sealcoats.
    6. Sealcoat the floor and cove: After the cove has cured and the floor is installed, DTI applies the same sealcoat to both the floor and cove for a seamless finish. Cure time depends on the sealcoat type: polyaspartic sealcoats cure in 2 to 4 hours, and urethane cement sealcoats can take up to 12 hours.
    7. Final inspection: Before the area is released, the crew checks three things on every cove: the radius where the cove meets the floor, sag along the wall, and drips after the sealcoat goes on.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is floor coving?

Floor coving is a curved transition at the base of a wall. It replaces a square corner with a rounded profile, so the joint can be cleaned and doesn't collect dirt or liquid.

Why does coving matter for cleaning and sanitation?

A square corner is hard to reach during cleaning and holds dirt and standing liquid. A coved edge can be wiped and washed down in one pass.

Can coving be added to an existing floor?

Yes. DTI assesses the existing floor first. [Replace with the conditions once provided.]

How long does coving installation take?

The cove resin typically cures in 8 to 12 hours, depending on temperature. Sealcoat cure depends on the sealcoat type: polyaspartic sealcoats cure in 2 to 4 hours, and urethane cement sealcoats can take up to 12 hours. DTI provides a full timeline with the written specification.

Does DTI provide a written specification?

Yes. DTI provides a written system specification before work begins.
