    Mechanic – Diesel & Gas

    Pay

$28–$36 per hour, based on experience and certifications

    Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday day shift, with occasional Saturday or after-hours coverage

    Travel

Shop-based in Tracy, CA (100 W Valpico Rd, Suite D) with occasional service calls to Stockton and Sacramento

DTI runs on equipment. When a ride-on grinder goes down in the middle of a 40,000 square foot pour, or a service truck doesn't start at 5 a.m., a crew sits idle and a client's schedule slips. Keeping the fleet running is the reason projects finish on the date we promised. You'll split your time between DTI's own trucks and flooring equipment and outside work we take in for other contractors and fleet owners — diesel and gas both come through the bay.

    Responsibilities

You will own diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance across the fleet — trucks, flooring equipment, and engine-driven machines — in the shop and occasionally in the field.

    • Run full diagnostics on diesel and gas engines and drivetrains using scan tools, service manuals, and wiring diagrams
    • Troubleshoot and repair fuel systems, air and hydraulic brakes, cooling, charging and starting systems, and 12V/24V electrical faults
    • Service diesel aftertreatment systems (DPF, DEF/SCR, EGR) and clear related fault codes correctly rather than around them
    • Repair and rebuild hydraulic systems, pumps, cylinders, and hoses
    • Diagnose and repair engine-driven equipment: planetary grinders, burnishers, generators, compressors, and lifts
    • Build and run the preventive maintenance schedule for every unit in the fleet, including DOT inspections
    • Take service calls to jobsites when a machine cannot come to the shop, and road-test trucks after repair
    • Order parts, manage shop inventory, and work with vendors on warranty claims
    • Log every repair: symptom, cause, correction, parts, hours
    • Follow lockout/tagout, hot work, and jack-and-stand procedures without shortcuts, and pull unsafe equipment from service

    Requirements

    • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical experience on diesel and/or gas engines, trucks, or off-road equipment
    • Working knowledge of engine, electrical, brake, and hydraulic systems
    • Valid CA driver's license with a clean DMV printout
    • Your own hand tools — DTI supplies specialty tools, diagnostic software, and shop equipment
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on your feet, and work in a non-climate-controlled shop year-round
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States and the ability to pass a background check and DOT drug screen

Not required, but each of these raises your rate — and DTI will help you get certified if you do not hold them yet:

    • ASE certification, diesel or gas (T-series or A-series)
    • Class A or Class B CDL
    • EPA Section 609 refrigerant handling certification
    • Forklift / powered industrial truck certification
    • OSHA 10-Hour Construction certification
    • Experience with Cummins, Caterpillar, Duramax, Power Stroke, Ford, GM, or Kubota/Deutz platforms
    • Welding and fabrication ability (MIG, stick, torch)
    • Bilingual English/Spanish

    Ideal Candidate

The mechanic who fits this bay is comfortable moving between diesel and gas rather than specializing in one, fixes the cause instead of the code, and treats a clean, safe shop as part of the job. If you flag unsafe equipment and pull it from service, nobody at DTI will second-guess that call.

    Compensation

Every mechanic in this role starts inside the $28–$36 per hour range based on years of experience and what you can already demonstrate on a working engine. Certifications you already hold or earn on the job move you toward the top of the range.
